Google announced new AI-powered updates to Google My Business (GMB), including improved curbside pickup and delivery options.
Pickup and delivery attributes
Google is adding a new pop-up box in the Google My Business public profile that will display pickup and delivery tabs:
On these tabs, it will display information such as delivery providers, fees, order minimums and pickup and delivery windows. It is starting testing these new features on mobile search with Instacart and Albertsons Cos. stores in the U.S..
However, there are plans to extend this feature later this year.
If these features are rolled-out to a wider number of businesses, it is still unclear if you will be able to add the info to your GMB profile directly or if you need to work with a Google partner. Certain data, like product availability, will only be available through Google’s partners
Pickup with Google Maps
Google is also testing a way to improve curbside pickup where you can communicate to the store which parking spot you are parked in.
This is a pilot program in partnership with select Fred Meyer supermarkets in the Portland, Oregon area beginning this summer.
The program will enable customers to input order details into Google Maps to facilitate the pickup process. Google will then notify the customer when it’s time to leave to pick up their order and share the arrival time, which is automatically updated based on location and traffic information, with the store. Customers can also add their exact parking spot to complete pickup.
