Google Asks About Update Service Availability
Many Google My Business listings owners are receiving a request from Google to “let customers know that your business is open and which services you’re offering.”
As the restrictions ease around the world Google wants to make sure that businesses update their status asap so searchers can have the best results for their local and Map searches.
What are the questions
- Is your business open? Your business is operating in some way — even if you’re only taking phone calls
- Are you offering onsite services? Customers can visit the physical location of your business
- Are you offering online appointments? Customers can attend real-time appointments with your business online
- If you answer yes, it automatically asks you to add an appointment link.
Do not Forget to Turn Off Google Ads
When you “temporarily close” your business, this information is not fed into your Google Ads account.
So turn off your Google Ads account whilst you are closed as you will be spending money unnecessarily.
When do you use Temporarily Closed and Special Hours?
If your business is closed for 7 or less days in a row or just sporadic days, you should use Special Hours
Does “temporarily closed” affect ranking?
In 2020, Google confirmed on Twitter it does not impact the local ranking of the profiles. However, this year (2021), Google wrote in the guidelines the following: “Businesses that are temporarily closed may rank after open businesses for broad queries. This ranking doesn’t happen for more specific queries, including queries for a specific business, or for queries when many matching businesses are temporarily closed.”
Can the profile receive new reviews whilst Temporarily closed?
Yes, it can.
Even though in 2020 during the first wave of COVID-19, Google suspended the reviews feature for temporarily closed profiles.
To remove the review functionality you have to mark the profile as permanently closed.
