Changing The Primary Owner on Google Business Profile
These instructions apply if you wish for another user already on the profile to be the primary owner. Otherwise, follow Transfer ownership instructions.
Important: Only users with “Owner” status can change the Primary Owner.
How to Change Google Business Profile Primary Owner
- You need to be signed in to the Google Account you use for your Google Business Profile
- Find your Business Profile by searching on Google for the exact business name or write “my business” in the search field
- Press on the 3 vertical dots on the right to open the Menu
- Now you press on “Business Profile settings”.
- Press on “Managers”
- When the “Managers” section opens up, find the user you intend to make the “Primary Owner”, and at the end of the row, you click on the arrow to open the user role’s dropdown menu.
- Press on the “Access” section to change
- You choose of course the “Primary owner” option
- A Pop-up box will appear to confirm the “Primary Owner” change, click on “Ok”.

Last Notes:
Your user profile gets “demoted” to “Owner” and the new Primary owner should receive an email confirming the new “Primary Owner” role assigned.

Transfer Ownership of Your Google Business Profile
If you need to transfer Primary ownership over to a new user/owner, for example, you sold the business or have a new partner.
How to Transfer Google Business Profile Ownership
- Add a New Owner to a Google Business Profile
- Transfer primary ownership to the new owner
- Remove your user from the profile(s) (if applicable)
Important: Only users with “Primary Owner” status can transfer the ownership.
Step 1 – Add a New Owner to a Google Business Profile
- Press on the 3 vertical dots on the right to open the Menu
- Now you press on “Business Profile settings”.
- Press on “Managers”
- When the “Managers” section opens up, at the top you press on “Add”
- Use the email address box to add the email for the new user

- Then under “Access”, choose “Owner”
- Then press “Invite”

Notes:
The new owner will receive an email to accept the invitation to become an “Owner” user.
When an invitation is accepted, the current owners of the profile are notified through email.
Step 2 – Transfer Primary Ownership
- Press on the 3 vertical dots on the right to open the Menu
- Now you press on “Business Profile settings”.
- Press on “Managers”

- When the “Managers” section opens up, find the user you intend to make the “Primary Owner”, and at the end of the row, you click on the arrow to open the user role’s dropdown menu.

- Press on the “Access” section to change
- You choose of course the “Primary owner” option and save

- A Pop-up box will appear to confirm the “Primary Owner” change, click on “OK”.
