This question was submitted in the Google My Business Help Community Forum.

Details: “ Small business owner who has a very disgruntled employee who wants to hurt our business with false accusations. It’s very unfortunate that anyone can create an account and spread false information.”

Response:

Unfortunately happens quite often, however, it is against Google policies for former employees to leave a review about the employment, under the conflict of interest.

Conflict of Interest

Maps users contributed content is most valuable when it is honest and unbiased. Examples of disallowed practices include, but are not limited to:

  •  Reviewing your own business.
  •  Posting content about a current or former employment experience.
  •  Posting content about a competitor to manipulate their ratings.

Therefore, you need to flag the review as inappropriate using the conflict of interest as a reason.

Be patient. It can take several days for a review to be assessed.

Methods to Flag a review under Conflict of Interest :

Flag a review in your Google My Business Account

  1. On your computer, sign in to Google My Business.
  2. Choose the review you’d like to flag:
    • Multiple listings: In the menu on the left, click Manage reviews. Then, use the drop-down menu to choose a location group. (This feature is not available for organization accounts.)
    • Reviews for a single listing: Open the one you’d like to manage. In the menu on the left, click Reviews.
  3. On the review you’d like to flag click on the 3 vertical dots » Flag as Conflict of Interest. Then report under Conflict of Interest.

Flag a review in Google Maps

  2. Find your business listing.
  3. Find the review you’d like to flag.
  4. Click on the 3 vertical dots » Flag as Conflict of Interest. Then report under Conflict of Interest.

Flag a review in Google Search

  1. On your computer, go to Google.
  2. Find your business listing.
  3. Click Reviews.
  4. Find the review you’d like to flag.
