What is it

Some people are reporting that Google My Business Q&A Feature has been limited to 440 Characters for answers (from 1000 char).

But No, it is not shorter as you can still use 1000 Characters to answer a question.

What do you need to do?

So what is happening? It’s basically a visual limit, meaning you can only see 440 characters when looking at a question, but if you click “Answer” you can still see the full answer.

I always recommend to keep the answers short and well within 440 char. If you need to give a longer answer, you should ask the customer to contact you directly.
